Deputy Kyle Kennebeck and Police Service Dog AXEL

Police Service Dog AXEL is a Belgian Malinois and has been with the Saunders County Sheriff's Office since February 2023.  AXEL and his handler, Deputy Kyle Kennebeck, are certified as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Narcotics Team.  AXEL is trained in both narcotics detection and patrol work such as detention, apprehension, tracking, and evidence locating.  AXEL can help deputies and other law enforcement agencies locate suspects, narcotics, and evidence hidden in various places.  This training can also be utilized in finding missing persons and protecting his handler.  On AXEL’s days off, he stays with Deputy Kennebeck and his three other dogs that love playing with him.  AXEL’s favorite game is playing fetch with his Kong. If you see Deputy Kennebeck and AXEL, feel free to say hi but please do not try to pet AXEL. He is expected to be on duty and always working.
